Profile
I
am an assistant professor of Arabic linguistics, with a focus on teaching Arabic for non native speakers. I
earned my doctorate degree in Arabic linguistics from Georgetown University,
my Master degree in Arabic grammar and morphology from Umm
al-Qura University,
and my Bachelor degree in Arabic language and literature from King Abdulaziz
University. I taught different levels of Arabic for native as well as
nonnative speakers in various educational environments. In teaching Arabic, I have always been concerned with designing strategies to develop academic and creative writing skills, integrating media and culture in teaching the Arabic language, and emphasizing
the role of language in defining culture and identity. I also have strong background in Arabic/English/Arabic translation as well as Arabic script editing.

Research Interests
I have deep interest in the way language functions in society. In particular, I would like to explore the critical relation between language and culture, and the importance of this relation in achieving communicative competence across cultures.
I am also interested in exploring the way language could shape identity and social behavior. Studying text organization of different text types in Arabic is another area of my interest. This, I believe, would pave the way for designing strategies to develop academic and creative writing skills.
